How to start learning SAP SuccessFactors?

I am looking to pursue my career into SAP SuccessFactors as a consultant. Can you please guide me how to proceed with the training and course?

It's a common question I receive. Here's my answer:

SAP is a good career, however, it has its own set of challenges, in addition to the rewards it offers, like any other profession.

1. Using FREE learning resources

You can start your learning journey through openSAP courses, which are available FREE of cost. Once you have good basic understanding of the SuccessFactors Solutions, you can take advanced (paid) training.

Here are some courses, which were run in the past, and I have recommended these to many:

  1. An Introduction to SuccessFactors Solutions
  2. Run Simple HR with SuccessFactors Employee Central
  3. Implementation Made Simple for SAP SuccessFactorsSolutions
  4. Talent Management Best Practices with SAP SuccessFactors
  5. HR + Finance with SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAPSuccessFactors
  6. Upgrade2Success – Making SAP ERP HCM Migration Easier
  7. Upgrade2Success – Mastering HCM Migration
You may find a few more courses too, at the MOOC forum.

All of the above are self-paced courses i.e. you can complete them whenever you like.

2. Taking PAID training

Later on when you decide to have formal training, please look for SAP Learning Hub as it's the best source to learn any of the SAP skills. It's also a cost-effective option, compared to the classroom training.

For a good foundation knowledge, for SAP SuccessFactors, please take

  1. HRSF1, which explains end-to-end HR processes within SuccessFactors, and
  2. THR80, which introduces the underlying platform in a good detail.

Later on, you can choose any of the modules, depending on your aspiration, such as

  1. Employee Central, which supports typical HR administration
  2. Recruiting & Onboarding, supporting Talent Acquisition Processes,
  3. and others...

3. Pursing SAP career

Once you have taken the necessary training courses, which may take up to a year, you can position yourself in the SAP job market.

There are two main tracks you can follow;
  1. Consultant, to deliver Solutions, and
  2. Administrator, to support implemented Solutions.
SAP SuccessFactors Consultants work with Professional Services firms on different project roles while the Administrators with Customer Organizations to provide Technical Support.

Though the above-mentioned courses can also be helpful if you are interested in pursuing SuccessFactors support role i.e. Administrator, SAP Education also provides courses on each module's Administration. For instance, TH80 and HR800, both teach 'Platform' but from two different perspectives i.e. implementation and administration.
